Tanzania pulled off the first major upset of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-1 victory over defending champions South Africa in their opening Group B match in Casablanca, Morocco.

Msewa gave Tanzania the lead in the 38th minute before Bambanani Mbane equalised for South Africa during first-half stoppage time. With the match appearing to be heading for a draw, Hasnath Umbamba scored the winning goal in the 87th minute to seal a memorable victory for Tanzania.

The result marked the first surprise outcome of the 16-team tournament, following expected Group A victories for hosts Morocco and Algeria.
