Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu says he remains focused despite criticism of his team selection, tactics and player deployment following Nigeria's 3–2 defeat to Malawi at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The defeat sparked widespread criticism from fans and football analysts, who questioned the coach's tactical approach and decision to play some players out of their natural positions.

Responding to the setback, Madugu made several changes to his starting line-up for Nigeria's crucial clash against Zambia. He recalled experienced striker Asisat Oshoala, midfielder Deborah Abiodun and Christy Ucheibe to the starting eleven, while Rofiat Imuran was also handed a starting role. Shukurat Oladipo, who began the match on the bench, made an impressive impact after coming on as a substitute.

The tactical adjustments paid off as Oshoala scored the game's only goal in the eighth minute to hand the Super Falcons a vital 1–0 victory over Zambia. Nigeria held on for the win despite playing with 10 players from the 40th minute after defender Tosin Demehin received a straight red card. Reflecting on the team's performance, Madugu acknowledged that the Falcons made several mistakes in the defeat to Malawi but said the coaching crew and players learned important lessons from the loss and implemented a better game plan against Zambia.
