Super Falcons head coach, Justin Madugu, has apologised to Nigerians following the team's 1–0 defeat to Cameroon in the quarter-final of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.

Speaking to journalists after the match, Madugu accepted full responsibility for the disappointing result, admitting that he was responsible for the team's failure to progress to the semi-finals.

The defeat ended Nigeria's campaign and denied the nine-time WAFCON champions an automatic qualification ticket for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil. The Super Falcons will now have to go through the World Cup play-off route in their bid to secure a place at the global tournament.

Cameroon secured a narrow victory over Nigeria to advance to the semi-finals, leaving the Super Falcons to reflect on another disappointing exit from the continental competition.

Madugu said he understood the frustration and disappointment of Nigerian supporters and apologised for failing to guide the team beyond the quarter-final stage.
