UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has warned FIFA president Gianni Infantino that he must either step down or face a leadership challenge at next year's FIFA Congress, while insisting he has no interest in replacing him.

Infantino has faced growing criticism over his now-abandoned proposal to attract private investment into FIFA competitions, including the men's and women's World Cups.

The controversy has also strained relations between FIFA and UEFA, with European football authorities threatening to boycott FIFA competitions and several federations withdrawing their support for Infantino.

Ceferin, 58, said he is not interested in succeeding Infantino, citing his commitment to UEFA and a desire to eventually step away from football administration.

The Slovenian has been one of Infantino's most vocal critics since the FIFA president announced plans to seek private investment in a company that would manage FIFA tournaments.

Ceferin said Infantino's once-strong position had changed significantly and predicted that he would face a challenger if he chooses to seek re-election at the FIFA Congress in Morocco in March 2027.
