The Federal Government has announced measures to curb hoarding of liquefied petroleum gas following reports of artificial scarcity driving up retail prices in several states.

The downstream regulator says it will begin daily tracking of depot-to-retail movement to identify bottlenecks and enforce compliance among marketers.

Consumer groups have welcomed the move but called for parallel investment in local processing capacity to stabilise supply long-term.
