The Sokoto State House of Assembly has expressed concern over the persistent poor quality of GSM and internet services across the state, calling on telecommunications operators and regulators to take urgent steps to improve network performance.

The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Aminu Gidado (APC, Sokoto South II) and seconded by Shamsu Aliyu (APC, Wurno). Presenting the motion, Gidado described telecommunications as an essential component of modern society, noting that unreliable network services are disrupting communication, business activities, education, healthcare, banking, governance, security and emergency response across the state.

He lamented that residents in several communities regularly experience weak network signals, frequent call drops, delayed text messages and prolonged internet outages, with some areas left without service for hours or even an entire day, disconnecting many residents from their families, businesses, government services and emergency communication channels.

Following deliberations, Speaker of the House, Tukur Bala, put the motion to a voice vote, and it was unanimously adopted. The Assembly directed its relevant committee to invite representatives of GSM service providers and regulatory agencies to explain the causes of the persistent network challenges and outline concrete measures to improve service delivery.
