DisCos install over 357,000 meters in first quarter of 2026

Nigeria's electricity distribution companies installed 357,495 electricity meters in the first quarter of 2026, as efforts to reduce the country's metering gap gained momentum.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission's First Quarter 2026 Report highlighted that the increase was driven by the Federal Government's Distribution Sector Recovery Programme, which accounted for more than one-third of all meter installations during the period.
Benin Electricity Distribution Company recorded 20.35% of the total, followed by Abuja Electricity Distribution Company with 14.08%. Of the total, 129,224 meters (36.14%) were installed under the Distribution Sector Recovery Programme, 118,681 through the Meter Asset Provider scheme, 97,992 through the Meter Acquisition Fund, 10,589 under the distribution companies' financing framework, and 1,009 through the vendor-financed framework.
