FCCPC, Lagos partner to strengthen consumer protection

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has partnered with the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency to improve consumer protection and address unfair trade practices across markets and businesses in Lagos.
The collaboration was announced today during a stakeholders' engagement in Ikeja, where regulators and business operators discussed compliance with consumer protection laws, particularly on price display, product labelling, and return and refund policies. Speaking at the event, the Executive Vice Chairman of the FCCPC, Tunji Bello, represented by the commission's South-West Coordinator, Olubumi Otti, said Lagos records millions of daily transactions across traditional markets, supermarkets, shopping malls, neighbourhood stores and online platforms, which depend on consumer trust.
Bello stressed that consumers should be able to see the price of goods before making purchases, rely on accurate product information, and enjoy their legal rights to refunds, replacements or repairs where applicable. The General Manager of Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, Afolabi Sholebo, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency and accountability in the marketplace.
