The Federal Government has charged Team Nigeria to surpass its performance at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham as the country's contingent begins its campaign at the 2026 edition in Glasgow, Scotland.

The charge came as the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, and the Commission's Director-General, Bukola Olopade, arrived in Glasgow to oversee Nigeria's participation in the Games.

The directive followed a message from President Bola Tinubu, delivered by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, during a send-off ceremony for the athletes in Abuja. Gbajabiamila urged the contingent to compete with determination and make the country proud, assuring them of the Federal Government's full support and promising that outstanding performances would be rewarded.
