Local government autonomy: FCT councils begin direct disbursement pilot
The Federal Capital Territory Administration has begun a pilot programme allowing its six area councils to receive statutory allocations directly, in line with a recent Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy.
Officials say the arrangement is designed to improve transparency in grassroots governance and reduce delays in project execution at the community level.
Council chairmen have welcomed the move, though some have called for capacity-building support to manage the new financial responsibilities.
