FG raises N5.08tn from domestic bond market in H1 2026, up 77.8%

The Federal Government raised a total of N5.08 trillion from the domestic bond market in the first half of 2026, marking a 77.8 per cent increase compared to the N2.86 trillion borrowed during the corresponding period of 2025.
An analysis of auction results released by the Debt Management Office (DMO) showed that the government's domestic borrowing programme expanded significantly between January and June 2026, reflecting increased financing needs through the local debt market.
The DMO also raised the volume of bonds offered to investors during the six-month period. Total bond offerings climbed to N4.95 trillion, a sharp increase from N1.85 trillion offered in the same period last year, providing investors with more opportunities to participate in government securities.
