INEC considers mock presidential election ahead of 2027 polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is considering conducting a mock presidential election and a comprehensive audit of its electoral technology as part of preparations for the 2027 general election.
INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, disclosed this while receiving the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Richard Montgomery, during a courtesy visit to the commission's headquarters in Abuja.
According to Amupitan, the proposed mock election would allow the commission to assess the readiness of its election processes and technology before the actual 2027 polls. He explained that the initiative was inspired by concerns raised after the 2023 general election, particularly regarding the reliability of electoral technology.
