Lagos dismisses reports of highest HIV infections, expands drug procurement

The Lagos State Government says reports claiming the state recorded the highest number of new HIV infections in 2025 are inaccurate.
Speaking at a press conference in Ikeja, the Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency, Folakemi Animashaun, explained that the figures being circulated refer to newly diagnosed HIV-positive cases, not new infections recorded during the year.
The Lagos State AIDS Control Agency also announced that Lagos has become the first state in Nigeria to independently procure antiretroviral drugs, with the first shipment expected before the end of August.
