The Nigerian Ports Authority says physical work on its one-billion-dollar port modernisation project will begin before the end of the third quarter of 2026, as preparations enter the final stage.

NPA Public Affairs General Manager, Ikechukwu Onyemekara, said the agency is concluding stakeholder consultations and host community engagements before contractors are mobilised to site.

He explained that the engagements are intended to prepare port users and surrounding communities for increased construction activities, including the movement of heavy equipment and other work associated with the large-scale modernisation project.
