Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, said his administration is committed to revitalising the Akwete weaving industry by addressing challenges that have hindered its growth and transforming it into a globally competitive indigenous textile enterprise.

Otti stated this while receiving the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and his wife, Priscilla Otti, during a visit to the Akwete Weaving Cooperative Society in Akwete, Ukwa East Local Government Area of the state.

The governor said his administration had developed a comprehensive plan to modernise the traditional textile sector and expressed readiness to partner with the First Lady to establish a world-class production hub for local weavers, warning that without innovation, improved technology and modern production methods, the industry risked losing its market to machine-produced imitations from countries such as India and China.

The governor also praised President Bola Tinubu's economic reforms, including the removal of petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, describing them as difficult but necessary measures, and urged Nigerians to remain patient as the gains become more visible with time.
