The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has said Togo, Benin Republic and Niger Republic failed to pay $12.66 million in electricity bills during the first quarter of 2026.

NERC said the three international customers paid only $4.84 million out of a total invoice of $17.48 million issued for electricity supplied by Nigerian generation companies. According to the commission's 2026 first quarter report, the payments represented a 27.57% remittance performance by the international bilateral customers.

NERC also reported that domestic bilateral customers paid ₦5.82 billion out of a ₦6.12 billion invoice issued for services during the same period, representing a 95% payment rate. The report showed that payments were also made towards outstanding invoices from previous quarters, with international customers contributing $6.64 million and domestic bilateral customers paying ₦2.59 billion.
