Andy Burnham has been confirmed as the new leader of Britain's governing Labour Party, positioning him to become the country's next prime minister on Monday following the expected resignation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Starmer is expected to tender his resignation to King Charles III on Monday, after which Burnham will be invited to form a new government and take office at 10 Downing Street.

Burnham secured overwhelming support from Labour lawmakers, making him the only candidate eligible for the leadership race. He also received strong backing from affiliated trade unions and local party organisations, paving the way for a smooth transition in the governing party.
