APC, PDP condemn Abia State campaign advertisement fees for 2027 election

The Abia State chapters of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have condemned the campaign advertisement fees announced by the Abia State Structure for Signage and Advertising Agency ahead of the 2027 general election.
Under the policy, presidential candidates are to pay ₦200 million, governorship candidates ₦150 million, senatorial candidates ₦100 million, House of Representatives candidates ₦50 million and House of Assembly candidates ₦20 million to display campaign materials in approved locations across the state.
Reacting to the policy, the APC governorship candidate in Abia State, Eric Opah, described the fees as an attempt to frustrate opposition candidates and called on Governor Alex Otti and the management of the agency to review the decision after consulting stakeholders.
The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party also condemned the charges, describing them as excessive and anti-democratic, and argued that the policy could limit political participation by making campaign advertising too expensive for many candidates.
