Benjamin Kalu Seeks Urgent Federal Intervention Over Abia Erosion

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called for urgent federal intervention to address severe erosion affecting communities in Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State.
Kalu made the appeal during an emergency assessment of erosion sites in Uzuakoli and Ozuitem communities alongside officials of the Ecological Project Office, including Director of Soil and Erosion Flood Control, B'aba Bomoi.
Residents reported that continued heavy rainfall has worsened the situation, with about 10 houses, including the residence of one of Kalu's aides, already destroyed.
Kalu described the erosion challenge as a matter requiring immediate attention and urged the National Emergency Management Agency and the Ecological Project Office to provide support, noting that the scale of the damage has exceeded the capacity of the Abia State Government.
