Ebonyi government denies claim Nwifuru threatened Wike, calls reports misleading

The Ebonyi State Government has dismissed claims that Governor Francis Nwifuru threatened the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during the endorsement rally for President Bola Tinubu and other All Progressives Congress candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The government described the reports as false and said they were intended to create division between the two political leaders. Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebe, said comments made by Governor Nwifuru at the June 15 endorsement rally in Abakaliki were misrepresented by the two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party and some media reports.
Omebe noted that the governor's remarks were directed at opposition elements accused of fuelling tension in Ebonyi State and spreading misinformation while invoking Wike's name, explaining that Nwifuru's use of the word "consume" was a metaphorical reference to legal consequences for anyone found promoting false information or actions capable of disrupting peace in the state.
