The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to transforming Nigeria's education sector, saying significant progress has been recorded across all levels of education under President Tinubu's administration.

Speaking while declaring open the 2026 Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN) Annual Education Summit in Abuja, Alausa said the ministry has introduced a wide range of reforms aimed at improving access to quality education, addressing teacher shortages and strengthening education financing.

The minister said one of the major innovations is the introduction of online classes for pupils from Primary One to Senior Secondary School Three in core subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science to bridge the gap created by inadequate teachers in schools.

Alausa also highlighted ongoing interventions in girl-child education, the Integrated Almajiri and out-of-school children programmes, noting that the reforms are already yielding measurable results across foundational, secondary and tertiary education.

On education financing, the minister disclosed that amendments to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Act have been concluded and forwarded to President Bola Tinubu for assent.
