The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria's Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) framework as part of efforts to tackle insecurity through non-kinetic approaches.

The National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre in the Office of the National Security Adviser, Major General Adamu Laka, at a validation workshop on the Standard Operating Procedures for DDR at the federal level and in Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna states, said the framework would provide practical guidance for implementing agencies, improve inter-agency coordination and ensure that DDR programmes are implemented in line with human rights and the rule of law.

In a policy presentation, the Director-General of Peace and Security Committees at the state level, Abimbola Wonosikou, said establishing State DDR Peace and Security Committees would strengthen Nigeria's response to terrorism and other forms of armed violence.

She noted that the DDR programme is aimed at promoting peacebuilding and reintegration while ensuring that individuals responsible for serious crimes are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
