The House of Representatives has withdrawn its earlier State Police Bill and adopted the Executive Bill transmitted by President Bola Tinubu, describing it as more comprehensive and better suited to address the country's security challenges.

Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the decision at the opening of the 2026 National Assembly Open Week in Abuja. He explained that the Executive Bill, developed by a presidential committee chaired by the President's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, contains stronger safeguards than the version previously passed by the House.

Abbas said lawmakers would recall the earlier bill and give the Executive proposal expedited consideration in view of the urgency of Nigeria's security situation. He assured Nigerians that the legislation would undergo public hearings and thorough legislative scrutiny, stressing that the process would remain transparent and open to public participation.
