The House of Representatives has passed the Executive Bill seeking to establish state police, advancing efforts to decentralise Nigeria's policing system.

The bill was approved during plenary after the House withdrew its earlier constitutional amendment proposal on state police and adopted the Executive Bill instead.

The development follows the Nigerian Senate's passage of its version of the legislation, bringing the proposed reforms closer to introducing a dual policing system designed to strengthen internal security and improve law enforcement at the state level.
