House of Reps advances State Police Bill to strengthen Nigeria's security system

The House of Representatives has adopted an Executive-sponsored Constitution Alteration Bill on state police, setting aside its earlier proposal on the same subject.
The bill, transmitted by President Bola Tinubu to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution to establish state police services as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria's security architecture.
Following its first and second readings, the House referred the proposal to the Committee on Constitutional Review for detailed consideration before it returns to the full chamber for further legislative action.
