Illegal dumping, land reclamation worsening Lagos flooding — Commissioner

Persistent flooding across Lagos State has been linked to poor public sanitation practices and unauthorised land reclamation.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Dayo Bush-Alebiosu, says indiscriminate waste disposal, illegal dredging and illegal land reclamation continue to worsen flooding, making it more difficult to tackle the challenge in the coastal state.
He added that the dumping of refuse and human waste into lagoons not only blocks waterways but also poses serious environmental and public health risks, warning that such practices could have long-term consequences for residents.
