The Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration exercise by two weeks and launched an online self-service portal to make voter registration more accessible.

The commission announced the extension in a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, after reviewing the exercise and consulting with political parties, civil society organisations, state offices and other stakeholders.

Originally scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, the registration exercise will now continue until July 24, 2026, giving more eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC said the extension demonstrates its commitment to ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has sufficient time to be included in the National Register of Voters.
