The Independent National Electoral Commission says it will not extend the continuous voter registration exercise beyond its closing date, despite calls from opposition parties and civil society groups.

INEC Deputy Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Wilfred Ifogah, said the commission had already granted a two-week extension before the exercise ended on Sunday.

Ifogah said the commission needs more than 75 days to compile and prepare the voters' register, stressing that the existing timetable must be followed to ensure the register is ready ahead of the elections.
