The Independent National Electoral Commission said it has addressed the technical challenges that affected the electronic transmission of results during the 2023 general election.

The commission said it is committed to delivering elections that are free, fair, credible, inclusive and transparent, while also considering a mock exercise on the electronic transmission of results before the next general election.

Speaking at a Policy Roundtable on Electronic Transmission of Results, INEC National Commissioner, Abdullahi Zuru, said the commission had drawn lessons from the shortcomings recorded during the 2023 elections and had strengthened its deployment of election technology. Zuru said INEC had long advocated legal backing for electronic transmission of results and had successfully deployed the INEC Result Viewing Portal in several off-cycle elections before expanding it nationwide.

He acknowledged that technical difficulties affected the upload of presidential election results to the IReV portal during the 2023 polls but noted that improvements had since been made, adding that INEC remains focused on ensuring that every valid vote counts in the 2027 general election.
