Minister of Works, David Umahi, has named the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Tinubu, saying the President conceived the project during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State more than two decades ago.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Umahi said the decision was taken by the Ministry of Works to recognise Tinubu's vision and contribution to the landmark infrastructure project even before its completion. He described the 750-kilometre coastal highway as a transformative project designed to boost connectivity and economic growth.

The minister also announced presidential approval for an additional 800 kilometres of road projects across the country to improve transportation and bring development closer to communities. The new projects include 400 kilometres added to the Fourth Legacy Project, extending the Akwanga–Maiduguri superhighway to about 1,100 kilometres with links to Plateau and Taraba states, as well as another 400 kilometres on the East-West Road.

Umahi further disclosed that the President had approved the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway using reinforced concrete pavement to improve durability after sections of the existing road showed signs of failure within a few years of completion. He added that approval had also been granted for the design, procurement and construction of the 5.76-kilometre Lao Bridge in Taraba State as part of efforts to accelerate infrastructure development across Nigeria.
