The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South-West Zone D, has announced plans to shut down academic activities in tertiary institutions across Osun State over concerns about rising political violence ahead of the state's governorship election.

The association made the announcement in a statement signed today by its Coordinator, Adeyemo Josiah; Secretary-General, Ojetola Babatunde; and Public Relations Officer, Tope Olugbemi.

NANS said the decision followed what it described as an increase in political violence, shootings, intimidation and election-related killings across the state, adding that the current security situation had created an unsafe environment for students and disrupted the smooth continuation of academic activities.

The student body expressed concern over reports of gunshots in communities close to some tertiary institutions, particularly during night hours, saying the situation had increased fear among students living both on and off campuses. NANS maintained that its position would remain unchanged until authorities provide credible security assurances and engage with student leaders.
