Niger Governor Bago sets up peace committee after Borgu communal clashes kill residents, destroy property

Niger State Governor Umaru Bago has directed the immediate establishment of a Peace and Reconciliation Committee following recent communal clashes in the Borgu Emirate that claimed lives and destroyed property.
The governor announced the decision during a sympathy visit to the Emir of Borgu, Muhammad Haliru Kitoro III, where he met with representatives of the Fulani, Boko, Kambari and Barigawa communities affected by the violence.
Governor Bago said the committee will investigate the causes of the clashes and recommend measures to prevent future outbreaks of violence, describing the incident as unfortunate and noting that Niger State is already facing security challenges and should not be further burdened by internal conflicts.
The governor urged residents to reject ethnic divisions, embrace peaceful coexistence and remain calm, saying unity is essential for the development of the state.
