Nigeria is demanding stronger action from South Africa following renewed xenophobic attacks targeting Nigerians.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, raised concerns with South Africa's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, who is serving as a special envoy of President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Enikanolaiye said the attacks have become a recurring problem, stating that records show repeated incidents dating back to 1995, with further outbreaks in 1998, 2006, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021, 2024 and 2026. He added that 98 Nigerians have died in mob and hate-related attacks since 2022, describing the violence as Afrophobia because it mainly targets African nationals, particularly Nigerians.
