Nigeria has called for expanded cooperation with Germany in economic development, security, renewable energy, digital innovation and regional stability as both countries work to strengthen their longstanding relationship.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, made the call today during a bilateral meeting with Germany's Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, and his delegation in Abuja.

Describing Germany as one of Nigeria's key strategic partners in Europe, Odumegwu-Ojukwu said relations between both countries had continued to deepen through years of mutual respect, trust and productive collaboration, noting that ties had expanded beyond diplomacy to include trade and investment, development cooperation, renewable energy, education, vocational training, science and technology, migration, culture, peace and security.

She expressed appreciation for Germany's continued support towards Nigeria's development goals and said increasing global challenges, including geopolitical tensions, terrorism, violent extremism, climate change, irregular migration, food insecurity and economic uncertainty, had made stronger international partnerships essential.
