Nigerians abroad can now renew passports remotely through NIS contactless system

The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced that Nigerians living abroad can now renew their passports through the Nigeria Immigration Service Contactless Passport Application System, following the release of an updated application guide by the service.
The Nigeria Immigration Service said applicants can begin the process through the official passport application portal, create an account, verify their identity with their National Identification Number and date of birth, complete the application form, upload required documents and select their preferred processing mission, without visiting a Nigerian embassy or high commission for biometric capture.
Eligible applicants can then opt for the contactless service, download the NIS Mobile App, complete facial and fingerprint capture, undergo liveness verification and submit their biometric details remotely. The service noted that the contactless option is subject to eligibility checks, and applicants who do not qualify must book a physical appointment at their selected embassy or high commission.
Those who complete the remote process are still required to send supporting documents, including their current passport, application form and payment receipts, through a return envelope to the processing mission. The NIS said applicants can begin tracking their applications two weeks after submission through its online tracking platform or mobile application.
