The Presidency has criticised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over reports that his lobbying group in the United States submitted petitions to President Donald Trump and the US State Department concerning President Bola Tinubu's 1993 civil forfeiture case.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency described the move as an affront to Nigeria's sovereignty, insisting that the matter was resolved more than three decades ago without any criminal conviction or finding of guilt against Tinubu.

The Presidency said reviving the case through foreign lobbyists is an attempt to internationalise Nigeria's domestic politics and undermine the country's independence, maintaining that the issue had already been settled through the 2023 presidential election and subsequent Supreme Court judgment, and urging the former Vice President to clarify his own legal standing.
