The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, said the Green Chamber does not need President Bola Tinubu to appear before lawmakers to address issues relating to the implementation of the national budget, insisting that the responsibility lies with the relevant government officials directly involved in executing the budget.

Agbese, who represents Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State under the Labour Party, stated this while speaking with journalists in Abuja against the backdrop of the heated debate that erupted during last Wednesday's plenary over a motion seeking to invite the President to explain the poor implementation of the 2026 budget, particularly constituency projects.

Agbese maintained that accountability for budget implementation rests with ministers, heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as well as the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, since they are directly responsible for the execution and management of public funds.
