Adeleke Alleges EFCC Plans to Freeze Osun Government Accounts Before Election

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC is planning to freeze the accounts of the state government ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The allegation was contained in a statement issued today by the state's Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi. According to the statement, Governor Adeleke said he had received what he described as credible information indicating that the EFCC had concluded plans to freeze all Osun State Government accounts, as well as the accounts of some top government officials.
The governor argued that if the reports are true, such a move would amount to an abuse of power and an attempt to disrupt government activities just days before the election. He further maintained that there is no legal basis for the anti-graft agency to freeze the accounts of a state government, insisting that the EFCC lacks the constitutional authority to take such action.
