Finance Minister Urges States to Leverage Reforms to Attract Investments
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Taiwo Oyedele has called on state governments to leverage Nigeria's improving macroeconomic environment to attract investments, create jobs and accelerate economic growth, saying the Federal Government has laid a solid foundation for sustainable prosperity.
Speaking today at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba, the minister said the Federal Government's economic reforms have strengthened public finances, expanded revenues available to states and local governments, and improved the business environment.
According to the minister, ongoing fiscal reforms have widened the nation's tax base while reducing the burden on businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises. He noted that increased revenues accruing to sub-national governments have enabled many states and local governments to pay workers' salaries promptly, clear pension arrears and invest more in human capital development and critical infrastructure.
He urged entrepreneurs and investors to take advantage of the improving investment climate by committing capital to Delta State, expressing confidence that partnerships between the Federal Government, the state government and the private sector would translate into inclusive growth and improved living standards.
