Iran says the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz depends on the United States ending actions it describes as hostile, including a naval blockade of Iranian ports.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said the restrictions imposed by US remain the main obstacle to restoring normal shipping through the strategic waterway.

Iran also dismissed repeated claims by the U.S. President Donald Trump, that Iran is seeking a deal with Washington, saying it is instead working with neighbouring Oman.

Esmaeil Baqaei said both countries had reached agreement on the geographical coordinates of the proposed route, while a joint statement outlining the key terms of the arrangement is in its final drafting stage, provided there is no outside interference. However, Iranian media reports indicate that any easing of restrictions will still depend on the United States lifting its naval blockade.
