The Ondo State government has deployed amphibious machines to clear waterways and drainage channels as part of emergency measures to reduce the impact of flooding across parts of the state.

Special Assistant to the Governor on Technical and Ecological Control, Elisha Ebijimi, said the government has commenced the desilting of canals, drainage channels and waterways using amphibious excavators. He explained that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa directed the immediate deployment of the machines to remove debris, vegetation and other obstructions affecting natural watercourses.

Ebijimi added that the flooding has caused significant losses in some communities, while assessment visits by the National Emergency Management Agency are expected in Ilaje and Ese-Odo Local Government Areas. He said the state government identified the clearing of waterways and drainage channels as a key step toward protecting lives and property during the rainy season.
