The Nigeria Police Force has barred Amotekun, vigilante groups and other non-state security outfits from participating in security operations for the Osun State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.

The police said groups including Amotekun, vigilantes, hunters' associations, CJTF, community security groups and neighbourhood watch outfits have no role in election security. They are prohibited from escorting election materials, guarding polling units, mounting checkpoints or carrying arms during the election.

The police also warned against ballot snatching, vote buying, voter intimidation, thuggery, violence and clashes between supporters, noting that security for the election will be handled by constitutionally recognised agencies.
