Shettima Urges States to Compete for Investments, Diversify Economies

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on state governments to embrace economic diversification and compete for investments, saying Nigeria is gradually regaining the confidence of global investors following ongoing economic reforms by the Federal Government.
Shettima made the remarks today while delivering his address at the opening ceremony of the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026, where he described the growing number of investment summits across the country as a healthy competition that would accelerate economic growth, job creation and national prosperity.
According to the Vice President, every state has unique strengths that should be developed to drive sustainable economic development. He noted that the competition among states should be viewed as a race for the future, where the rewards are employment, prosperity and improved living standards for citizens rather than conflict.
He emphasized that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has remained committed to placing Nigeria on a path of economic growth through continuous engagement with investors, policymakers and stakeholders across the country, adding that the recent wave of investment summits was driven by increased financial allocations to state governments following economic reforms and the determination of states to channel available resources into productive investments.
