President Bola Tinubu has directed the establishment of an additional 500 Compressed Natural Gas refuelling stations across the country, increasing the planned number under the Presidential CNG Initiative to 1,000. The President disclosed this on Thursday following his meeting with the Governors' Forum.

In a statement posted on his official X handle, the President said the governors had resolved to take immediate steps to reduce transportation costs in their respective states, with a focus on the cheaper operating costs associated with CNG and electric vehicles.

He said the Federal Government is already investing heavily in the country's energy transition by expanding CNG conversion centres and refuelling infrastructure nationwide, adding that more than 120,000 vehicles have so far been converted to CNG under the Presidential CNG Initiative, while over 100,000 additional conversion kits are currently being processed.
