President Bola Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to immediately begin the process of vacating the court order freezing the bank accounts of the Osun State Government.

The President also instructed the anti-graft agency to discontinue all proceedings related to the account freeze, citing concerns over the timing of the action as the state prepares for its governorship election.

President Tinubu acknowledged that the EFCC acted within its legal mandate in obtaining the court order. However, he said the development could create the impression of federal interference in the electoral process because of its proximity to the election.

He further informed Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of the decision during a telephone conversation, informing him that the EFCC had been directed to lift the court order affecting the state's account.

The Presidency says the decision is aimed at ensuring the withdrawal of the court order and preventing actions that could raise concerns about the electoral process.
