The United States government has published its official list of civics questions and answers for foreign nationals seeking American citizenship through the naturalisation process.

The material, released by US Citizenship and Immigration Services USCIS, is designed to help applicants prepare for the civics portion of the naturalisation test, which examines their knowledge of American history, government and civic principles.

The questions cover topics including the US Constitution, the structure of government, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, American history and national symbols.

According to USCIS, the civics test is conducted orally during the naturalisation interview. An applicant may be asked up to 10 questions from the official list of 100 questions and must answer at least six correctly to pass the civics portion of the test.

USCIS also warned applicants that some answers may change when public officials are elected or appointed. The agency advised applicants to provide the name of the official holding the relevant position at the time of their eligibility interview, stressing that incorrect answers would not be accepted.
