The Kebbi State Government says schools closed in communities affected by banditry will remain shut until the security situation improves.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris, said the decision, taken about seven months ago, was based entirely on security considerations and would not be reversed until the safety of students and teachers can be guaranteed.

Idris said the state government would not compromise the lives of students and teachers under any circumstances, explaining that the affected schools would only reopen when the security situation permits a safe return to learning.

The Special Adviser also cautioned against politicising security issues, stressing that the protection of lives remains the government's top priority, and maintained that no amount of pressure or misinformation would influence the decision to keep the affected schools closed until it is safe to reopen them.
