Court remands former Code of Conduct Tribunal chairman Danladi Umar in Kuje prison pending bail hearing

Justice Peter Kekemeke of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama has remanded former Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application.
Umar was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a four-count charge of allegedly conferring undue advantage on himself while serving as Chairman of the tribunal. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Christopher Mshelia, asked the court to fix a date for trial and order the defendant's remand, while counsel to Umar informed the court that a bail application had been filed and urged the court to consider it.
Mshelia told the court that the prosecution had only just been served with the bail application and requested time to respond. Justice Kekemeke subsequently adjourned the case until July 15 for the hearing of the bail application.
