Law officers in the Kwara State Ministry of Justice have commenced an indefinite strike over the alleged non-payment of statutory allowances and the government's failure to harmonise their salaries and conditions of service with those of magistrates.

The industrial action, which began today, was announced by the Law Officers Association of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter, after the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. In a notice signed by the association's Acting Chairman, Kehinde Ayorinde, members were directed to withdraw their services and suspend all official duties until the state government meets their demands.

The association accused the government of failing to pay the outstanding balance of members' 2020 furniture allowance as well as robe allowances for 2024, 2025 and 2026, and alleged that the approved harmonisation of salaries, allowances and conditions of service for state counsel with magistrates has not been implemented.
