The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a masquerade identified as Asoleke over the alleged killing of a 24-year-old man, Sefiu Kehinde, during a masquerade procession in the Labiran area of Ibadan.

The police also confirmed that a full-scale investigation has commenced, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend four other suspects believed to have participated in the attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the incident was reported at the Mapo Divisional Police Headquarters by the victim's sister, Aderemi, who alleged that Asoleke and his followers assaulted Kehinde with axes and cutlasses, inflicting multiple injuries on different parts of his body.

Police officers from the Mapo Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, responded promptly to the scene and rushed the victim to a hospital, though doctors later confirmed that Kehinde had died from his injuries. Investigators subsequently processed the crime scene, documented evidence and photographed the area before releasing the deceased's body to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. Asoleke has been taken into custody, while four of his alleged accomplices remain on the run.
